Unhygienic food outlets are a growing urban phenomenon in Harare, enjoying brisk business  because of their proximity to the customers' work places.

The sprouting of un-licensed food outlets in Harare has been cited as one of the major causes of the outbreak of typhoid in Harare.

While people enjoy food from such make shift take-ways, the inefficiencies of Harare City Council in the collection of garbage has also been attributed to the outbreak of archaic disease such as typhoid.

A survey in the capital shows that even at commuter omnibuses termini enterprising individuals are preparing sadza while also enjoying brisk business from travellers.

While people might blame those that continue to prepare food at un-hygienic places, consumers of such products are the chief culprits as they keep such people in business by continuously supporting them.

Such activities happen in full view of the city fathers who seem to be incapacitated while residents do as they please disregarding the city by-laws.

There is need for residents and entrepreneurs to be responsible for a clean city.
