Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) National FM producer/presenter Kanyemba Bhonzo escaped death by a whisker after the car he was travelling in was swept away by water in a flooded Mudzi river.

Calls on people not to cross flooded rivers make screaming headlines almost every day but human nature appears convinced to trust instinct and go against advice.

Such was the case for Bhonzo who is now counting himself luck to be alive after he and his brother had the Toyota Land Cruiser they were travelling in swept away by the flooded Mudzi river in Mutoko.

In an amateur video circulating on social media, the land cruiser plunged into the river and villagers are heard screaming and seen rushing towards the car to render assistance.

An unmoved Bhonzo said his brother could hardly see the road and he missed the bridge resulting in their car being swept away.

In yet another video making rounds on social media, a sedan is seen trying to speed past a flooded river but could not make it.

While these stories might still have survivors narrating how it all happened, the old adage warns of not putting one’s hand inside a hornets nest.

The videos send a warning not to cross flooded rivers, let alone to stop dicing with lives.

The government and police are on record warning motorists not to try crossing flooded rivers.
