The Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe (HAZ) says there has been an improvement in domestic tourists’ bookings this festive season attributable to the campaigns by the parent ministry to promote domestic tourism.

The domestic hospitality industry body, the HAZ says it is satisfied with the surge in domestic tourists’ bookings this festive season with most resorts destinations having more local tourists.

HAZ president Mr George Manyumwa said it gratifying that most hotels in the resort towns have more domestic tourists than international guests an indication that the market is beginning to take hid of the call to visit local tourists attractions.

Market analysts have singled out the unattractive pricing regime as the major reason why locals have not been visiting the tourists’ destinations.

Mr Manyuma however feels the sector is not immune to the high operational costs which other sectors are grappling with.

According to Treasury, Zimbabwe’s tourism sector is projected to register a 0.8% growth in 2017.

According to government the major the thrust will be on promoting and improving the Zimbabwe brand as a competitive tourist destination under the theme 'International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development'.
