The National Gallery of Zimbabwe will introduce more programmes to support the growth of the local artistic talent as the institution celebrates 60 years of existence this year.

The institution called upon the public and private players to support the development of the country’s artistic talent that is now on international spotlight.

Gallery executive director Mrs Doreen Sibanda said this year the gallery will have a lot of exhibitions that will be celebratory in nature to mark its diamond jubilee celebrations.

Mrs Sibanda said the major highlight of the celebrations will see the country hosting the international conference on arts and culture that was last held in Zimbabwe in 1962.

She, however, said the bigger project for this year will focus on the resuscitation of the rural sculpture project as a way of promoting the sculpture industry.

The gallery executive director added that the vast artistic potential in the country requires that the arts sector be greatly supported in order to promote and preserve the local culture.

The gallery was established in 1955 and this year’s diamond jubilee celebrations are expected to be officially launched soon.
